Equine Science Seasonal Class

Summary of Class - Ages 8 and up

Come share the holiday spirit with our horses and learn about them in this fun & festive class! Students will learn about how horses see and communicate, and how that keeps us and the horses safe when we are around them. Using that knowledge, students will have an opportunity to pet and groom the horses and have a holiday photo taken with them. This class includes painting a horse-shaped tree ornament and making treats for the horses.

6 children max per class to guarantee a personalized experience. The class lasts 2 hours (10am - 12pm)

$75 per child to attend
$20 per adult to attend

Adults are more than welcome to attend, but each adult needs to purchase an adult attendance slot.

Being Safe Around a Horse:

  • By understanding how horses see and communicate, we can keep ourselves and the horses safe when we are around them.

  • How Do Horses See? Monocular versus binocular vision & blind spots

  • How do horses communicate? Tail & ear positions, eyes, body language

  • Demonstration on how to go around a horse

Meet the Horses & Craft

  • Using the knowledge above, students have an opportunity to interact with the horses

  • Students decorate a horse-shaped tree ornament

Tunnel Vision Exercise & Grooming

  • Tunnel Vision: Wearing eye masks that limit their vision, students will navigate an obstacle course to understand more about how horses see and why it is important we are aware of that.

  • Introduce different grooming tools and how to use them

  • Grooming time for the students!

Pictures & Horse Treats

  • Take a picture with your favorite horse

  • Make a horse treat to feed the horses
